An Islamphobe’s Previous Encounter With The NYPD

Piro Kolvani,  a Florida man who did not do his state proud, attacked a Muslim storeowner, yelling about a desire to kill Muslims. The NYPD is looking into investigating this as a hate crime. They had been unaware of the Islamophobic rant until the Daily News asked them about it. Some people are worried that this represents an increased threat towards Muslims. Huffington Post commentators are quick to blame Donald Trump.

This isn’t the attacker’s first appearance in the news, nor his first encounter with police in Queens. He had made the New York Post’s police blotter in Early 2009.

A raging Astoria man was arrested for two bizarre incidents, officials said yesterday.

Piro Kolvani, 48, first allegedly threatened to throw a piece of concrete at a cop on 31st Street near Hoyt Avenue on Jan. 16 at 5:35 p.m., police said.

He was charged with menacing, resisting arrest and criminal possession of a weapon, and released from jail the following day pending disposition of the charges.

A day later, at 47th Street and Ditmars Boulevard at 3:30 p.m., the hothead took a baseball bat from his car and snarled at a 21-year-old man, “Do you know who you’re f-ing with?” court papers say.

Kolvani allegedly swung at the victim, who was injured blocking the bat with his forearm.

Kolvani was then charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, said a spokesman for DA Richard Brown.

Sometimes, lunatics will lunatic.

About Thomas Mets

I’m a comic book fan, wannabe writer, politics buff and New Yorker. I don’t actually follow baseball. In the Estonian language, “Mets” simply means forest, or lousy sports team. You can email me at
