Andre Bauer, former Lieutenant Governor of South Carolina, lost a congressional primary last week. One of the many reasons was that Governor Nikki Haley didn’t like him very much and wasn’t afraid to say so. They had previously run against one another in the gubernatorial primary, in which a member of Bauer’s campaign had claimed to have an affair with Haley.
I like it when a politician admits that their reason for disliking another politician comes down to character. There’s no bullshit there. Former colleagues and opponents will often be aware of the glaring defects which disqualify individuals for any elected office. And it’s refreshing when they don’t pretend that something else is the issue.
